I did really like The Longest Journey – I haven’t played Dreamfall or Chapters yet, so I’m not sure how much you’d be missing.

Good to know! I’ll probably get them all anyway (they’re really cheap!) and figure it out when the time comes.

Unless you need A Machine for Pigs or it’s ridiculous cheap, I hear it’s not great. :/

Yeah, I see it got mixed reviews. It’s only a few bucks, though, and Jessica Curry did the music, which honestly is enough to sell me on it all by itself. And it was done by the people who did Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, so I can totally understand it not being to a lot of people’s taste, but I think I’ll probably at least like it. At least I hope so.

TLJ is great! though it’s also an older game, so be warned – I’m not sure how well the graphics & interface have aged.

I’m fine with that! A lot of older games may look rough, but if the story’s good, it’s worth it. I can live with bad graphics. Would you recommend starting with the first one? Am I going to miss out on stuff if I skip straight to Chapters?

Yeah, I know the bat is unlikely to hurt me, but I can’t help yelping at them. Their movement is just unsettling to me.

EXACTLY. I know they’re not hostile to humans or anything, but they can still swoop at me. This one crawled for a minute and it was horrible.

Oh god, I grew up in the country and had several bats (and mice) in the house. It’sd nerve wracking!

It is! I also grew up in the country, and I don’t think we ever had bats, but we had a really bad mouse problem for a while, and a big part of my rodent phobia stems from that. Spend long enough with mice popping out of your closet at you or running across your pillow and you can never really be comfortable around them again.

(Also, I’ve been informed that bats are mammals, not rodents. So there’s that. But they still scare me.)

Clearly the solution is Len/Steve and Sara/Sharon.

I…would actually be really into Sara/Sharon. Has anyone written this fic? Anyone? Because if so, I need to know about it IMMEDIATELY.

Ray/Kendra was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

Oh man, I HATED it. I don’t care that much about either of the Hawks–I don’t dislike them at all, but I don’t find them interesting in the slightest (not a great plan since they’re a huge part of the plot, but what can you do). But as soon as Ray and Kendra started making flirty eyes at each other, I knew we were never going to get anything interesting from either of them again, and every scene they had would become about their relationship. And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. SO DULL.

The show definitely incredibly needs more girls.

Girls who don’t get killed off, or left behind in another decade, or any other nonsense, please.

I picture both of them thinking, “Well, might as well try it…” followed by “OK, nope.”

Okay, that I could live with. Headcanon accepted.

The Narnia books are honestly relatively slight on plot, though – there’s a lot of just hanging around talking in most of them. The movies added assorted action scenes to liven them up. I think it’s much harder adapting a thicker, denser book into movie form.

That’s true. I don’t mind leaving stuff out, so much, I just mind when the fundamental tone and themes are changed. (Unless they take out really important scenes–looking at you, Harry Potter.) But yeah, you’re right. It becomes a lot harder to decide what really is vital to the story, and what can be sacrificed.
